SEO Best Practices
Last updated: June 8, 2026
1 Introduction
When your new website goes live, Acton BV follows best practices to ensure it is ready to be found by Google and other search engines.
This document explains what we have done, what you can expect next, and how you can help improve visibility over time.
1.1 What We’ve Already Done
As part of the go live process, Acton BV has:
1.1.1 Configured Google Analytics (GA4)
We set up or connected your Google Analytics account so that you can monitor how visitors find and use your website. This allows you to see key information such as:
- Number of visitors
- Popular pages
- How people found your site (Google, social media, referrals, etc.)
1.1.2 Configured Google Search Console
This is Google’s own tool for monitoring how your website performs in search. We have verified ownership of your website and connected it to your sitemap, so Google can:
- Index your pages correctly
- Alert us to any crawl or indexing errors
- Provide performance data (search impressions, clicks, keywords, etc.)
1.1.3 Submitted the Website to Google
Your website has been submitted to Google for indexing. This ensures that Google knows it exists and can start displaying it in search results. It may take several days or weeks for Google to fully index all pages.
1.2 Why Your Website May Not Yet Appear at the Top of Google
Search rankings are not instant and cannot be guaranteed. Google’s algorithm takes time to understand your website, evaluate its relevance, and compare it to others. Factors influencing ranking include:
- Competition
Other sites may have been established for years, with more backlinks and content. - Content quality
Google favours high quality, original, and regularly updated content. - Search intent
Your pages must clearly match what people are searching for. - Reputation
Sites with more external links from trusted sources tend to rank higher. - Location
Local results depend on where the searcher is located and their preferences.
1.3 How You Can Help Your Website Get Found
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is an ongoing process. The following steps will help improve visibility:
1.3.1 Keep Your Content Fresh
Regularly update your site with new articles, news, or blog posts. Google rewards websites that stay active and relevant.
1.3.2 Use Clear, Descriptive Language
Make sure page titles, headings, and text include natural mentions of what you do and where you operate.
Example:
“Guided Tours of West Cork” is better than “Our Tours”.
1.3.3 Build Your Reputation Online
Encourage other reputable websites to link to yours, such as local directories, partners, or media mentions. Each link acts as a vote of confidence in your site.
1.3.4 Share Your Website
Post your web address on social media, in your email signature, and on printed materials. More visitors signal to Google that your website is valuable.
1.3.5 Keep Performance Strong
Fast, mobile friendly websites perform better in search. Your site is built to current standards, but over time large images or extra plugins can slow it down, so performance should be monitored.
1.3.6 Be Patient
It typically takes a few weeks to a few months for rankings to stabilise. SEO is gradual, but consistent effort pays off.
